Paul Gravett’s illustrated art book explores the life and work of Tove Jansson, the Finnish artist and writer best known as the creator of the Moomins. Part of Thames & Hudson's The Illustrators series, it follows her from an artistic childhood in Helsinki, where her first illustrated stories were published when she was just fourteen, to the Moomin books and comic strips that made her beloved around the world. Along the way are her satirical covers for Garm during the Second World War, paintings, murals, and illustrations for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The Hunting of the Snark, and The Hobbit. Her novels and passages from her own writing round out a portrait of an artist whose work reaches well beyond Moominvalley. A thoughtful gift for a Moomin admirer or anyone interested in illustration.
